General Summary

The G-ANC peer mother will serve to improve identification, linkage and retention among adolescent girl and young woman aged (15-24) years at the respective facility attached.

Key Responsibilities
• Document /record details of client particulars, self-care details, tracking in the appointment books, and update in mothers’ passport as well as the Group MCH register
• Assist with self –care activities like demonstrating and identifying fellow peers who can take weight, height, MUAC and BP measurement.
• Conduct group counseling sessions during visits
• Provide one on one counseling services as needed for adherence, psychosocial support, infant testing, and partner testing
• Follow up of AGYW who miss their appointments through different channels so that they are retained in their groups
• Motivate and encourage group members to attend G-ANC/PNC group sessions through testimony sharing (refer to annex)
• Lead/facilitate Group discussion on other non -health care sessions for example OVC, DREAMS, FSG, YAPS and where services are provided
• Conduct Peer learning sessions /Health Education using the job aide for health education. (The topics will depend on the groups concerns, needs and purpose of the visits).
• Link peers to services and follow up of the referrals with in the facility, community and to other health facilities
• Send the appointment remainders for the groups scheduled to meet next.
• Conduct sensitization and create demand at the community level about availability of services

Person Specification
• Being an adolescent girl and young woman (AGYW)
• Identified through the ANC, PNC, ART or adolescent clinic
• Demonstrated commitment and passion in helping peers
• Aged 15-24 years to allow a minimum of 2 years of service.
• May be in or out of school. If in school, s/he should be at tertiary level where the school program is flexible enough to allow for their engagement.
• Available to offer services for at least 3 days in the week
• Be able to read and write with a minimum of primary leaving certificate or its equivalent
• Resident within the health facility catchment area
• Be able to freely express him/herself
• Willing to serve others and acceptable among fellow peers.
• Should be in a stable mental status
• Evidence of obtained permission from parent/guardian, for emancipated AGYW, permission should be sought from any significant other.
