Job Description
Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (www.rescue.org) is a world leader in relief, rehabilitation and post-conflict development services for those uprooted or affected by violent conflict and oppression. The IRC is currently working in over 40 countries around the world, addressing both the immediate and lifesaving needs of conflict affected people in emergencies and the reconstruction needs of post-conflict societies.
The IRC began programming in northern Uganda in 1998 in response to mass displacement and devastation wrought by rebel group, the Lord’s Resistance Army. In 2002, the IRC expanded to the remote, conflict-affected region of Karamoja and in 2011, began working with refugees in Kampala. Monitoring the influx of South Sudanese refugees at the end of 2015, the IRC began scaling up its response to refugees arriving in the West Nile region. By promoting durable solutions that deliver on the interdependent aims of saving lives, strengthening institutions, and supporting social cohesion, the IRC in Uganda is laying the building blocks for long-term stability and development –bringing people from harm to home. The IRC currently works in 9 districts in Uganda, including Kitgum, Lamwo, Kyegegwa, Moroto, Amudat, Yumbe, Arua, Kasese and Kampala
The IRC is currently implementing its health and nutrition program in West Nile and Acholi focusing on providing primary health care services to refugees in their settlements.

Job Overview:
Working under the guidance of the Nutrition Officer; The Nutrition assistant will be responsible for the day to day implementation of Integrated nutrition interventions .i.e. IMAM done by running Selective feeding program (SFP), Outpatient therapeutic care (OTC), blanket supplementary feeding program (BSFP), emergency screening, nutrition surveillance and assessment including Mass Screening, Promotion of Maternal infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN through the Community Health Volunteers. He/she will be responsible for day-to-day data compilation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Implementation of the emergency nutrition response in the selected location while ensuring adherence to the stipulated protocol.
• Implementation of outpatient therapeutic program of severely acute malnourished children under-fives.
• Implementation of outpatient therapeutic program of severely acute malnourished children under-fives.
• Implementation of supplementary feeding of the moderately malnourished under-fives ,pregnant and Lactating women
• Implement comprehensive Maternal Infant and young Child nutrition and Baby friendly community initiatives (BFCI) approaches.
• Support capacity building and OJT for Nutrition refugee staff and VHTs through identification of capacity gaps and carrying out refresher trainings.
• Support the systematic delivery of health and nutrition education messages to the community and facility level.
• Monitor and review nutrition supplies and equipment movements such as deliveries, storage, transport, and utilization at the site level.
• Offer nutrition support through counseling to individuals with medical complications including comprehensive care clinic clients.
• Conduct Mass screening for children under-fives regularly in collaboration with community health volunteers.
• Compile and submit donor and IRC Nutrition program weekly, biweekly, and monthly report of all activities implemented.
• Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.


Qualifications
• At least a diploma in Food Nutrition and dietetics from recognized institution.
• At least two (2) years’ working experience preferably with an NGO in a cross-cultural setting.
• Previous team experience and knowledge of team dynamics desirable.
• Ability to maintain the highest degree of discretion and confidentiality.
• Ability to organize tasks simultaneously, prioritize work and ensure tasks are completed by deadline.
• Good inter-personal and conflict resolution skills, able to work under pressure and manage personal stress.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills plus fluency in spoken and written English.
