Job title: Biodiversity Engineer
Location: Kampala, Albert Lake production installation base or other cities in Uganda if required.
Primary function
To aid in the implementation of biodiversity protection in all company operations scheduled at site level and ensure that Company's Environmental Management plan is in line with relevant environmental laws and regulations in Uganda.

Responsibilities
• Develop and deliver the detailed Environment and Biodiversity site(s) annual work programs in accordance with the overall department objectives. Develop the Environment & Biodiversity coaching program for site operations teams.
• Supervise the activities of the Environment and Biodiversity site operations teams.
• Have responsibility for site environment and biodiversity deliverables of all parties including site supervision, enabling infrastructure, main facilities, shared services and third-party activities
• Provide site support as directed by the Environment Manager to ensure effective implementation of BESAP and BESMP for contractor activities and in particular provide the required support to ensure effective roll out of Net Gain Implementation Plan and other biodiversity programs as required.
• Provide site support as directed by the Environment Manager to ensure effective implementation of ESMPs by contractors and other operations support such as spill response planning, site inspection activities, monitoring activities as required.
• Develop the training packages on various environmental and biodiversity issues both staff and contractors.
• Cooperate with other Company Departments located in the field developing new compliance strategies and implementing environmental and biodiversity compliance requirements.
• Assist with the preparation and presentation of materials on environmental compliance and biodiversity management for stakeholder consultation meetings.
• Participate in local awareness and education activities about Environmental and Biodiversity Management with Project teams on site, local authorities and local communities.
• Collect site monitoring data required for all reporting requirements (including reports to regulators, reports to Group, reports to sites) Ensure the visibility of ongoing environmental and biodiversity compliance activities throughout the Company.
• Assist in the preparation of responses to enquiries and claims regarding company environmental and biodiversity protection and performance.
• Identify training and development needs as well as roll out a program to address such needs for the Environment and Biodiversity team and site organization. The focus shall be on developing competencies through dedicated coaching of individuals to ensure readiness for project execution (construction & precommissioning) and latterly for operations phase
• Maintain awareness of and ensure compliance with all relevant statutory permits, licenses, authorizations and consents as well as company HUSE standards.
• Support implementation of impacts mitigation hierarchy. Ensure systematic implementation of ESMPs and prompt identification of deviations, with appropriate mechanism to implement corrective actions as required


Requirements
• Bachelor's degree or above in environmental science or management, natural resources or other related
• At least 10 years related experience with preferably S years in oil and gas Industry

Knowledge
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of Ugandan Environmental Legislation and IFC Performance Standards.
• Clear understanding of key areas of biodiversity management including climate change and resource management and implementation of practical solutions;
• Good understanding of ISO 14001 EMS, preferably with experience of system auditing and implementation;
• Environmental and social impact assessments management plans;
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 environmental management systems or integrated EHS MS.
