Job Summary:
The Gender & Protection Officer ensures gender & protection mainstreaming across the programme and provide technical support in relation to relevant child protection and gender standards; mainstream protection and gender in programming, and ensure adherence to child protection minimum standards and principles as well as the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/Code of Conduct.


Some of the Roles of the Gender & Protection Officer are as follows:
• Capacity building of programme staff and key stakeholders on gender and protection
• Build capacity of key stakeholders on protection, child protection and Gender/GBV
• Conduct period reviews of information on gender and protection and assess barriers/protection risks faced by women, adolescent girls and children to inform programme implementation
• Develop training materials and IEC packages on SGBV & child protection
• Promote awareness/education on SGBV standard operating procedure (SOP) and protection minimum standards
• Coordinate and facilitate community meetings and dialogues with stakeholders on SGBV & child protection issues and develop action plans
• Represent ADRA Uganda at the monthly & quarterly gender-based violence and child protection working groups hosted and share progress, challenges and appropriate follow up plans.
• Establish and implement feedback and complaints mechanisms on SGBV and Child protection across the programme area. This will include documenting all SGBV cases reported and contributing to the SGBV database/information management system at the district and national level
• Collaborate with gender and protection actors through enhanced synergies to implement protection education, case management and referral of SGBV cases received to existing SGBV referral mechanisms. The Officer shall ensure that such cases are followed up to completion
• Intentionally, regularly informally and formally consult with beneficiaries, non-beneficiaries, government, other agencies to receive feedback regarding the programme commitments and staff conduct
• Compile and submit quality reports to the Project Coordinator as directed. Ensure that all reports are highly accurate

Qualifications and Experience
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Human Rights or any other relevant field
• A minimum of five years of experience working in child protection and gender development programming, preferably in vulnerable contexts
• Familiarity with key international standards (e.g. CP Minimum Standards, Red Cross and Red Crescent Code of Conduct, SPHERE, and the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) Standard, etc.)
• Additional Certificate courses in IASC Guidelines and key training packages preferred (Caring for [Child] Survivors of Sexual Violence, psychological First Aid in Emergencies, CPiE Minimum Standards, and GBV IMS, International Humanitarian & Human Rights Law Foundations, etc), is an added advantage
• Networking and collaboration skills
• Excellent program implementation and report writing skills
• Demonstrated ability in Data Collection, Data Management and Analysis
• Computer skills, especially statistical analysis
• Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Capacity building, training, and coaching skills
• Familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the internet
• Knowledge of project cycle and related tools and methodologies
• Must be fluent in written and oral English
• Basic familiarity with the Luo language will be an added advantage
• Basic cultural knowledge of Acholi land, including the Districts of Agago, Pader, Kitgum, and Lamwo. Working experience with the Luo people will be an added advantage
