JOB DETAILS:
UBOS is a semi-autonomous agency of Government responsible for maintenance, coordination, supervising and monitoring of the National Statistical System to ensure the collection, analysis and dissemination of standardised statistical information. The Bureau is also mandated as the principal official statistics producing agency in the country.
UBOS is seeking dynamic, competent, self-motivated, result oriented, and good team players of strong character and high integrity to fill the positions below;


JOB TITLE: Statistician (06) 

JOB REFERENCE: UBOS/STAT/02/2021 REPORTS TO: Senior Statistician 

SALARY SCALE: UBOS SP3 

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Permanent


Job Summary:
Responsible for the production of regular statistical indicators in the fields of macroeconomic statistics, business, industry, agriculture and environment statistics, and coordination of statistics in line with the Uganda Bureau of Statistics mandate.

Key Results Areas

1. Compile external trade statistics based on the internationally recommended

practices, underpinned by the EUROTRACE software

2. Profile other existing trade statistical data required for having external sector

statistics complete, identify existing data gaps and sources and recommend

robust method of addressing the inadequacies

3. Compile Annual and quarterly Central Government Finance Statistics.

4. Participate in data collection, capturing, editing for the General Government/

public sector

5. Compile the Supply and Use Tables, Rebase GDP and develop working files

6. Regularly update the Annual GDP working files established; analyze the

collected data and compute expenditure on GDP estimates.

7. Compile and analyse the Satellite Accounts for specific thematic areas

particularly the Non Profit Institutions economic accounts.

8. Compile and process timely construction sector indices and prepare press

release

9. Compile production data for manufactured products for construction

10. Produce quarterly statistical reports

11. Support the development and review of strategic plans for LGs, MDAs and

Training Institutions

12. Organize Inter agency performance reviews

13. Compile and maintain a list of development indicators for the National

Statistical System

14. Prepare Bi-annual reviews and documentation of progress in statistical

development

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

a. At least an Honors Degree in Bachelor of Statistics, BSc. Economics with

Statistics, BSc Mathematics and Economics, BSc. Quantitative Economics,

or Business Statistics.

b. Working knowledge of MS Office and Statistical packages

Experience:

i. Either a minimum of 2 years working experience in statistical related work

after attaining the undergraduate degree, OR a post-graduate degree in

related discipline.

ii. Detailed knowledge of statistical data and information sources within the

public and private domain

Other Requirements:

1. Analytical and writing skills and data management skills

2. Excellent inter-personal relations and communication skills

3. Working knowledge of computer applications and statistical packages

4. High team building and decision-making skills

5. An appreciation of quality assurance will be of added advantage.

6. Capacity to coordinate, mobilize and develop partnerships

7. High ethics, integrity and practice of professionalism

8. Ability to lead and motivate a professional team in your jurisdiction to focus

on results-oriented performance
