Location:  Uganda

Work Hours: Full-time, 08 hours per day

Salary: UGX

No. of vacancies: 01

Deadline: 14 December 2020

Hiring Organization  Mercy Corps

Program / Department Summary
Mercy Corps aims to develop pro poor agricultural markets in Uganda and promote inclusive growth. The agency is implementing an FCDO funded NU-TEC Financial Services programme which utilizes a blended finance model for agriculture market system development in northern Uganda.
To implement the facility, Mercy Corps as the implementing partner is partnering with a commercial financial institution(FI) to establish and run a credit fund for lending to agribusinesses and agriculture projects that would otherwise be considered ‘too high a risk’ for commercial lending. The new portfolio of loans will aim to adopt innovative risk assessment and management strategies that incentivise financial institutions to adopt reduced borrowing requirements and make lending capital available to a wider segment of the market.
The project’s theory of change dictates that a one-time capital injection through a blended finance facility at the FI can, in the first instance increase affordable finance available to agribusiness in Northern Uganda and in the long term demonstrate the opportunity and tested strategies of risk management that can encourage other financial institutions to increase financial services to agriculture markets in northern Uganda potentially creating opportunities for income generation and economic growth for the poor in Northern Uganda. .
